Cadac Safari Chef two bag

Packing away and storing the cadac safari chef 2 low pressure bBQ.

In this section we will demostrate how to pack away the safari chef 2 bbq as well as tricks and tips for storing your bbq.

Folding the legs

The legs were designed to be folded down in a particular order to optimize space inside the bag. Each leg has a number 1,2 and 3. It is possible to fold the legs in the wrong order and the Safari Chef 2 will pack away just fine. But it’s best to follow Cadac’s recommended way.

Packing away the BBQ

The Cavas bag has strong strudy zips, a net on the side for a single gas canister, a zipped compartment with sperator in the lid of the bag and of course a large zipped storage compartment for the main BBQ unit along with its accessory parts.

How much does the safari chef 2 weigh fully bagged?

Well how much does the Cadac Safari chef 2 low pressure BBQ actually weight once packed away (packed away with a full gas cansister minus the regulator), the answer, not a lot, coming in at a mere 4.9kg which is about 10lb, now that is light! If you think this is still too heavy then I honestly think its time for you to join a gym! If they made it any lighter I would float away! On a more serious note however 10lbs does add up when you combine the weight with additonal items such as chairs, food and the gas regulator (which can fit inside the bag but I’d keep it seperate to avoid overloading the bag) food, but overall the BBQ is very light.

Plenty of room but don’t over pack the bag!

As we warned earlier, do not get over excited with the generous room the Cadac Safari Chef 2 bag offers and overload it as doing so can cause wear and tear, which unfortunately happened to us, though we identified our error quickly before any tears could occur, and in doing so after several years of use our bag is still in good condition. So, as always, the moral is, take care of the equipment and it’ll last a lifetime.

The issue in the photos was caused by adding too many (4x) plates to the top compartment, which caused the top compartment to bloat, pushing the grid pan into the canvas bag, rubbing it against the bag, and BBQ leg beneth it! You can still add plastic plates to the top compartment, but I’d limit it to no more than 2 plates to be on the safe side.

Remove the gas clip

For the older models of the Safari Chef 2 like ours you had to remove the included gas valve as you were unable to fold the legs fully down, which meant you could not effectivly pack the BBQ away! However the newer versions of the Cadac Sarfari Chef 2 low pressure pro models all have quick release valves built into the BBQ, which is a fantasic improvement made by Cadac. Just make sure you use a regulator that has a quick release to take full advantage of the new edition.
