how to connect a gas canister to the cadac safari chef 2 low pressure bBQ

In this section we will show you how to connect a gas canister to the Safari chef 2 BBQ and cover must have accessories.

Must have accessories

We have covered what you get, and what you don’t get back in our previous pages and now it is time for us to cover the must have accessories you’ll need to complete your Safari Chef 2 low pressure BBQ ranging from regulators to gas canisters and BBQ covers.

Cadac EN147 Gas Regulator

The first must-have accessory you will need is the Cadac EN147 gas regulator, which is needed in order to connect the various brands of gas canisters to the Safari chef 2 low pressure BBQ. Please note that only the high pressure Safari chef 2 model allows you to connect the gas canister directly to the BBQ. For the low pressure models you will need a regulator. There are various regulators available to purchase from the classic screw-on type (same type featured in our demonstration video), dual regulators and Quick Release (QR) gas regulators. We recommend using a quick release regulator, as it is easier to connect and disconnect your gas supply.

For both the quick release and the screw on regulators you will need a gas spanner (and we recommend an adjustable multipurpose spanner) to tighten the connector to the BBQ and in the case of the screw on regulator you will also need to use the spanner to release the regulator from the BBQ, however, for the (QR) quick release regulator you only need to attach and tighten the connector to the BBQ once and after that you simply click and unclick the gas hose, which saves time and hassle as well making packing away a breeze.

Cadac Dual EN147 Gas Regulator

We always use the single regulator for our Cadac Safari Chef 2 low pressure BBQ however you can purchase a dual regulator and hose kit if you wish to connect two gas canisters to the Cadac BBQ. I think the dual regulator was primarly made for the larger Cadac BBQ’s as they get through gas quicker than the Safari Chef 2 does! I don’t really think you need to purchase this for the Safari Chef 2 if i’m honst but the the main adventage in buying this is that you don’t really have to worry about having to change gas canisters during your camping holiday. The disadvantage is that this dual regulator is a little bigger and bulky compared to the single regulator.

The choice is yours, we have buying links to all items.

You can grab a new dual regulator at ebay for a great price with free shipping using our affiliate links, which add no extra cost to you but do give us a few pennies.

Gas canisters and brands

There are many different types and brands of gas canisters and it does matter which type you get as some gas types will not be suitable whereas other canisters won’t even fit the regulator! Our review has been for the Cadac Safari Chef 2 low pressure LP BBQ and this model requires a gas regulator. Now you may have seen some Safari Chef 2 BBQ’s with a canister attached to the actually BBQ but those Safari Chef 2’s are (HP) High Pressure models.

We recommend buying either Cadac’s own brand of gas canister or the Coleman range, which is what we often buy as they tend to be a little cheaper. You can purchase the Coleman canisters in packs, which make for great value for money.

For a single person, eating a couple light meals a day for 7 days we found one canister is more than enough, so when planning your trips I’d calculate one canister per week as a rough guide.
